Why I enjoy Christmas...

Well even though the blog just started, you had to assume there would be a christmas post! Originally I was going to go on and on about my day, but I realized that there are more important and cooler things to talk about. Like the polite people I met ... well yesterday....

It was christmas eve, and of course I had to do some last minute running around. 3 place, I figured it shouldn't take more than 2 hours. I knew I had to be home by 3 to make it to church by 330. So I left my house around 11 to go to Red Robins and gets some gift cards. The lady at the front was so friendly, yet the people she was helping at the time gave her more crap than your estranged aunt gives to you on christmas about why your single... I'm not bitter I swear. Anyways, she sat the annoyed guests and returned to her host desk to find a 20 dollar bill with the word smile written on it. Who Placed it there? well it sure as hell wasn't me. It turned out to be the younger son of the bitchy family, he placed it after the family had waddled to their booth. I guess some times the apple does fall far from the tree.

Then I had to go to Wegmans... It was SO crazy, people were parked in the most obscure locations. Once inside the mayhem was continues around every turn. But everyone was polite... It seemed no one wanted the "right of way" at intersections, everyone was giving up the last of items to other customers. Everyone had smiles on and no one seemed to mind if they were caught up for a couple more minutes.

It just goes to show you, that even in today's busy world, a simple holiday can transform even the coldest of asses, into people of gold!

Why I Appreciate Friendliness

I got the call at 3:30 today, my manager asked me to cover a shift. This is one of the worst situations to be in... Do you...
A) Say no, and risk having a pissed off manager.
or
B) suck it up and say yes, forgoing any plans you already had.
(see any economics text book and look up "opportunity cost" it will change your life)
I ultimately choose B and went into work. I am glad I did. I don't know what it was, maybe the holidays, maybe my new cologne, but every table I had left me between a 25 to 35 percent tip. Not only did I do well monetarily tonight but every customer was friendly, including the man with the six toes. ( I know this face because he felt it necessary to explain his dilemma for 10 minutes while i served his food). Even the customer who had to wait 5 minutes while i slowly walked his filled to the top martini glass to his table every time he ordered a new one (4 times). Friendliness goes a long way in any service industry. Try it out for size, you might like the result.

Why I Love Work...

You know, most people bitch and moan about their job. But not me, I rather enjoy being a Server. I get to move around all day, and I get to meet new people... I also get the best stories.

Take for example the lady in the fur coat. I never got her name, and everyone who knew of her referred to her as "the lady in the fur coat." What made this lady so unique was the fact that, as far as we could tell, she wore nothing under her coat. Countless servers have offered to take her coat but she never relinquished it. We never understood why until one day the coat opened just a little to far and she exposed a little to much. After that we never saw her again.

How about the Mother who brought her young child in for dinner. As I approached the table I commented on the angelic nature of the near infant sleeping in his, or her carrier (you never can tell at that age). I asked if the two of them would like anything to drink. She asked for a Pepsi and an Apple Juice. I procured the two drinks and returned to the table. If you have been following along you know something has to be different or i wouldn't share the story. She proceeded to drink the apple juice while emptying the Pepsi into her child's bottle. Your confused? Think about how I felt when she asked for a refill on the Pepsi!

Now, most people dont have a reason to like Wednesdays, but where I work Wednesday is the day that the six foot four blonde comes in. She's always a great tipper and very patient. what makes her even better, is that she is a he. He uses the mens room, but wears bright pink pumps. She combs her hair, but takes it off the wig to do it. It's a very unique but enjoyable experience waiting on 64b (6 foot 4 blonde) and any server would be lucky to get that table, because then they can add the stories to their blog.
